Philadelphia, PA – Guard Michael Sturns (sr. Fort Worth, TX/North Crowley) reached the 1,000 career point plateau as the Holy Family University men's basketball team routed Bloomfield College in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) cross-over game on Saturday afternoon at the Campus Center, 91-66.
Guard Ceazer Johnson (Jr. Monroe, LA/Richwood) led four Tigers (7-5, 1-2 CACC) in double-figures with a career-high 21 points on 9 of 14 shooting. Guard Ryan Lancaster (sr. Egg Harbor, NJ/Egg Harbor) had 20 points and eight rebounds. Sturns finished with 19 points, eight rebounds, six assists and two steals. Forward London Houston (sr. Philadelphia, PA/Friends Central added 12 points, seven assists, six rebounds, three blocks and three steals. Holy Family out-rebounded Bloomfield, 53-50.
Guard Gage Daye paced the Deacons (10-6, 2-2 CACC) with 20 points and nine rebounds off-the-bench. Forward Charles Smith had 14 points. Guard Omari Knox had a double-double consisting of 13 points and 10 rebounds.
Holy Family broke a 2-2 tie with seven straight points to take a 9-2 lead just 3:35 in. A Sturns three-pointer triggered a 13-0 run to give the Tigers a 24-5 advantage. After a Bloomfield basket ended the streak, Holy Family went on a 10-0 spurt to move ahead 34-7 with 8:45 left in the half. A Johnson triple at the 4:40 mark gave the Tigers a game-high 32 point lead (44-12). The Tigers led at the break by 26 (54-28).
Bloomfield out-scored Holy Family 18-7 in the first 5:31 of the second half to get as close as 15 (61-46). Over the next eight minutes, the Tigers put up 23 of the next 31 to regain a 30 point lead (84-54).
Bloomfield returns to action on Monday, January 7, as they square off against Philadelphia University. The Deacons will be hosting the game that kicks off at 8pm.
